Purpose of the good
employment charter

The Good Employment Charter is a new initiative led by Nottingham City Council to improve employment standards for Nottingham and Nottinghamshire. It sets out a clear framework for what makes a good employer and celebrates businesses that are committed to fairness, respect, and opportunity for all.

Membership is voluntary and is open to all organisations including public sector bodies, private sector businesses, service providers, and the Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprise sector.

By signing up to the charter you pledge that your organisation is prepared to meet Seven Charter Commitments:

  1. Secure Work - minimum 16 hours, no unnecessary zero-hour contracts

  2. Flexible Work - creating diverse and inclusive workplaces

  3. Fair Pay - working towards the real Living Wage Foundation rate

  4. Improving Workplace Engagement & Voice - staff contribution to success

  5. Developing Excellent Recruitment - transparent, inclusive practices

  6. Improving People Management - investing in training and development

  7. Fostering Employee Health & Wellbeing - supporting mental and physical health

Whether you are already leading the way or just starting your journey, signing up to the Charter helps you showcase your commitment to doing business the right way.
